چکیده

This study aimed to investigate the effects of the administration of butanolic residue (BR) of Pfaffia paniculata by intraperitoneal route to Ehrlich ascitis tumor bearing mice. Initially, a toxicity study of P. paniculata BR was performed in which doses of 12.5; 25 and 50mg/Kg were administered by intraperitoneal injection for seven days to Swiss mice. The treatment did not show toxicity. Then, Swiss male mice received, by intraperitoneal injection, once a day, 12.5; 25 or 50mg/Kg of P. paniculata BR for seven days. This protocol started in the same day of tumor inoculation with 5X10 cells i.p. The treatment with butanolic residue of P.paniculata i.p caused a significant increase in the ascitic volume; however, a significant decrease in tumor cells number per ml (p<0.05) was observed in P. paniculata treated mice that was followed by a numerical (although non-significant) decrease in the total numbers of tumor cells in the collected ascitic fluid. These results indicated a tumor cell inhibitory effect by P. paniculata butanolic residue in this experimental system, and indicate that topical application of this residue can be useful to control the cancer growth.

Pfaffosidic Fraction from Hebanthe paniculata Induces Cell Cycle Arrest and Caspase-3-Induced Apoptosis in HepG2 Cells

Hebanthe paniculata roots (formerly Pfaffia paniculata and popularly known as Brazilian ginseng) show antineoplastic, chemopreventive, and antiproliferative properties. Functional properties of these roots and their extracts are usually attributed to the pfaffosidic fraction, which is composed mainly by pfaffosides A-F. However, the therapeutic potential of this fraction in cancer cells is not ...

Ascitic and solid Ehrlich tumor inhibition by Chenopodium ambrosioides L. treatment.

The leaves of Chenopodium ambrosioides L. [Chenopodiaceae] ('mastruz') have been indicated for the treatment of several diseases, among which the cancer. There are no results focusing the effect of C. ambrosioides treatment on tumor development in vivo. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of treatment with C. ambrosioides on Ehrlich tumor development. Swiss mice were treated by ...

The bradykinin B1 receptor antagonist R-954 inhibits Ehrlich tumor growth in rodents

The present study investigated the effects of a new bradykinin B(1) receptor antagonist, R-954, on the development of Ehrlich ascitic tumor (EAT) induced by the intraperitoneal inoculation of EAT cells in mice and the formation of a solid tumor by the subcutaneous injection of the cells in rat paw. The development of the tumor was associated with an increase in mouse total cell counts in bone m...

Some inhibitory effects of (--)-emetine on growth of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma.

(-)-Emetine has little or no effect on O(2) consumption of Ehrlich ascites-cell suspensions or on the viability of transplanted Ehrlich ascites-tumour cells exposed to, or incubated with, the drug in vitro before inoculation into new-host mice. (-)-Emetine administered as a single injection to mice bearing Ehrlich ascites-tumour cells slows the growth rate of the tumour. The subcutaneous or int...

An Ascites Tumor Appearing during the Passage of Eperythrozoon Coccoides in Mice

A strain of Eperythrozoon coccoides was maintained in a pure state for 16 months in unsplenectomized Princeton mice by the intraperitoneal injection of parasitized blood, at intervals of 1 to 3 weeks. In the 39th passage three out of five mice developed marked ascites with innumerable neoplastic cells in the peritoneal fluid. By passage of this fluid the tumor cells and the eperythrozoon were t...
